I have been reflecting about how often during my life I have made ‘wrong’ decisions which have resulted in me pursuing the wrong course / career path, living in the wrong country, choosing the wrong partner / husband, having less than optimum treatment for an illness, moving / selling my house and so on. The list of possibly wrong decisions over a lifetime is endless. I have not been alone in making stupid decisions; just contemplate the countless ill-judged decisions for nations to go to war, including the First World War on its 100th anniversary, Afghanistan, Iraq, Libya to name but a few examples.
Now this is possibly what wise sages might term ‘the experience of hard knocks’; and they may well be correct. Except that in many instances in my life, these injudicious choices I’ve made have often been done in haste, panic, without advice or proper information, even as emotional reactions to things going on in my life - fear, grief, love / infatuation, even idealism.
A major factor driving people to act not in their best interest is through lack of choice - lack of informed consent, as it is termed in the medical / health world. In my view, much of the entire healthcare world appears to be built upon an edifice of completely narrowing and limiting treatment choices down to whatever drug of choice is on offer for many health conditions.
I have encountered this lack of appropriate choice scenario many times, starting from when, lying in hospital seriously ill from meningitis at age 7, a priest entered my hospital room in Montreal and asked whether I was Catholic or Protestant. Not being either of those religions (I am Jewish) that question completely short-circuited my 7-year old mind. I was reduced to replying that I didn’t know.
Twenty-five years later, while suffering excruciating pain from pelvic inflammatory disease - PID, I underwent >10 various invasive tests, x-rays, even surgical laparoscopic examination - only to be told that I was suffering from PID. The remedy I was told was to take antibiotics any time I had pain, or wished to have sex. If these measures didn’t succeed, I could have my ovaries, fallopian tubes, even my uterus surgically removed.
Through a series of synchronistic events at that time that I was suffering with pain, I happened to encounter a practitioner of NLP who had used hypnosis to help with his major injuries suffered from a parachute jump, and who introduced me to a holistic community of bodyworkers and a macrobiotic East-West Centre. By entering the parallel, previously unknown world of holistic treatments and macrobiotic diet, my pain gradually subsided and health was restored.
When we launched Positive Health PH Online 20 years ago, complementary and alternative medicine treatment approaches existed; however there was not as much information regarding these options as is available today. Now, 20 years later, information regarding all spheres of natural treatment approaches abounds; however, as far as the medical, pharmaceutical professions and the media is concerned, the only treatments generally mentioned or promoted are drugs or conventional medical interventions.
This is especially true of cancer treatment; numerous articles have been published in PH Online, regarding alternative and integrated treatment approaches to cancer:

Additionally articles and book reviews have documented the side effects resulting from toxic conventional cancer treatments, i.e. chemotherapy and radiotherapy, which may be causative factors in the development of multi-drug resistance, cancer stem cells and other gene mutations and which may influence temporary cancer regression and then future recurrence and metastases.

A recently released professional documentary by Marcus and Sabrina Freudenmann features interviews with an array of experts from both the English-speaking world and foreign locales, including doctors from cancer clinics in Mexico and Germany. Viewers can view the treatments used in the top clinics around the world such as ozone therapy, hyperbaric oxygen therapy, insulin potentiated treatments and all the forms of hyperthermia AND hear the top doctors from these clinics explaining in depth how each treatment works. None of these innovative treatments is currently lawful within the remit of the 1939 Cancer Act; however evidently cancer patients with ‘end-stage’ disease are surviving and being ‘cured’.

Recently the UK government has announced a £300m project initiative to sequence 100,000 genomes in order to shed light on the molecular and genetic mechanisms of many diseases, which will ultimately lead to less toxic and more effective targeted treatments for many conditions, including hopefully cancer, dementia and Alzheimer’s. I applaud such enterprise and await the progress such increased knowledge will eventually provide. However, I am exceedingly impatient at the total lack of availability of already known, natural, non-toxic alternative and integrated treatments which could evidently save many thousands of lives right now.
The catastrophic scenarios envisaged regarding a potential Ebola virus pandemic at this time is another example whereby potentially life-saving measures using nutritional support with vitamin C and selenium infusions could be implemented in the current absence of any vaccine, treatment or drugs against Ebola.

We much strive to bridge the ignorance divide between the conventional medical and natural treatment alternative worlds.
